Learn German free, 40 words at a time

Instead of a course that starts with fruit and farm animals, LingoMatrix asks what you need German for — renting a flat, office small talk, train travel — and builds a 40-word matrix around it. Those 40 words recombine into roughly 10,000 sentences you would actually say.

Build my German matrix

How the German matrix works

  1. Say what you need German for, and pick your level.
  2. Get 10 pronouns, 10 verbs, 10 adjectives and 10 nouns in German, each with an English translation and phonetic spelling.
  3. Pick one word from each column — the grammar engine conjugates and agrees everything for you, then reads the sentence aloud.
  4. Hit the randomizer when you want a short surprise sentence to practise.
